Reflection
As I take a look back from where I started in this Composition 1 class, I am able to find clarity in the growth of me not only as a writer but as a student in general. This English class has helped me improve my reading, writing, and grammar skills. I feel that without this class I would not be the same and this class has definitely positively affected my life. English has always been my favorite subject and I am happy to say that even through the “hiccups” in the class, I still feel the same about the subject. Through ENC 1101 I have improved as a student-writer, written my best essay, and gained grammatical skills.
This English course has improved me as a student because I used to take my confidence in English for granted. Procrastination is easily one of my top villain’s that I hope to crush one day. Although it was present with me every now and then, this class has helped me tackle the temptation of procrastination. As a student, I now appreciate the work I am given and use it to help me grow whenever I can instead of at the last minute. This class has also helped me improve as a writer due to the amount of essay assignments I completed. It is easier for me to accomplish an essay with the time given and finish it correctly.
In addition, Composition 1 has prepared me for the future by the numerous essays assigned. In this class we focused on many different types of essays and learned ever part and style of them. The most difficult essay for me was the Argument-Persuasion essay. I think this was the most difficult because I had to rewrite it and find new sources because I did it incorrectly the first time. But I was able to earn my points back as easily as I learned my mistake. The best essay that I wrote in my opinion was my Compare-Contrast essay entitled; Children’s Pastimes - Then & Now. I think this is because of the evidence I used to back up my essay and the clear organization. I believe that by the end of this course I will know all types of essays like the back of my hand.
Lastly, I gained lots of important grammatical skills and techniques from this course. In this class we were assigned many grammar sheets that helped me practice the skills I learned from the modules. We also listened to podcasts explained by “Grammar Girl” (a.k.a Mignon Fogarty) who comically taught the skills we learned in the lesson. I will use the skills we learned in this class in the future and in all of my writing from now on.
In conclusion, This Comp. 1 class has brought many beneficial lessons and skills to me that I will be able to use in the future. ENC 1101 has helped me improve my writing and my study/work skills. I am grateful for being able to be in this class and I am very happy with my decision to be in it. I am proud of the work I have done and the small amount of mistakes I have made along the way. I hope to pursue more with writing and always write to the best of my ability. Write On!
